Dear readers: Should I cover my husband's sin?
From: | <Linda Ikeji> |
---|
I have been married for 10+ years and thought I was happily married till some weeks ago. From the fourth year into my marriage my mom advised us to take on 2 female relatives. One was 22 and the other 13 at that time. In 2010, we noticed that the older of the girls had become so close to my husband to the point that anyone could easily conclude they were intimate. She became rude to me but got closer to my husband and he never saw anything wrong with her attitude. He would take her to school (UNILAG) and pick her up regularly. He would gladly buy the exact items for her and myself whenever he traveled. Several times he gave her large sums without my consent or knowledge but thankfully it all came out through her mom. Continue...
He blurted out once that she had STD and I was quite embarrassed that he would know that about her if nothing was going on. In the end we decided she couldn't go on living in my house and my mom came to take her away her even though my husband kicked against it furiously. The younger one stayed on and that is now my greatest undoing.
She grew up quickly and she is now 20 and in her second year in University. She recently sent her Dad (who lives in Lagos) a suicide message stating that she was going to kill herself if she is allowed to continue staying with us. Her dad has now called me to say he followed up with the suicide message and she confided in him that my husband disvirgined her at 15 and had continued to sleep with her till she put up some resistance late last year. She said he is also with her roommate and claimed to have seen a message from the girl to my husband implicating him. She also said that she had caught my husband and the older girl that left in 2010 in suspicious positions before the girl was sent away.

I have confronted him with all these and he is not giving tangible reasons to disbelieve the girl. Truth is I know he did these things because of other things the girl told me that I have since confirmed one of which is that he brought a stray girl (18 yrs) into our home under the guise that she was a distant cousin's daughter. It turned out he met her randomly and merely chatted her up.
My Pastors have intervened and told me all these are true but that "he is a man and will never openly admit it now". They are asking me to let go for the sake of my children and the marriage. I am however upset that he will get off this easily and the innocent girl will not get justice. Should I cover his sins and appeal to the girl's father who has indicated that he will do as I advise or should I insist that he is made to apologize to the girl? I keep thinking what if she is my own daughter!! I am at my wits end trying to figure out if I should act as a wife or a mother! Will a good wife cover her husband's sins???
5yr old girl sustains horrific injuries after being allegedly attacked in school

Her mother and other relatives have opened a Facebook page for the young girl to tell what happened to her and share photos of her injuries, while seeking for justice. Below is what they wrote on the Facebook page about the incident...
"On Tuesday, August 26, 2014, Lacey Harris was called go come pick up her daughter at Arlington Elementary School in Pascagoula, Mississippi, because AvaLynn had been injured in an accident. The sight Lacey found when she got to Ava's school was a parents' nightmare: her face swollen, cut, and bruised beyond recognition." Continue...
Lacey rushed Ava to the family pediatrician, who burst into tears upon seeing the Ava's battered visage. Fortunately, the doctor determined that it is unlikely that Ava would have any permanent physical damage. Mental and emotional damage is another story altogether.
AvaLynn informed Lacey that she was assaulted by another student: that she was kicked repeatedly in the face until she fell off of the slide on the school's playground. The school informed Lacey were no teachers present when the incident occurred, and because of that, no one could prove whether or not another student had harmed Ava.
After days of Lacey, friends, and family members reaching out to local news stations and to Facebook and other social media bodies, the school finally released a statement: AvaLynn was injured as the result of an accident, one that involved no other children. Although a police report was filed, Pascagoula Police Department states that they are not investigating the situation.
The school basically claims that Ava injured herself, as all the photos depicting her injuries will debunk. The local PD claims that there has been no criminal act, which the injury photos also disprove.
The Pascagoula School District issued the following statement about the incident:So now we've taken this to Facebook, asking everyone out there to please share this page, to please share AvaLynn's story. We need this to reach as many people as possible so that this little girl will not go without justice. Please share this with your friends, your relatives, and all your local news outlets. Please help us get the answers and the justice that our little angel deserves.

"A student was injured while playing on the playground at Arlington Elementary School Tuesday afternoon. School officials responded to the situation. The parent was contacted and the student received medical treatment. No other children were involved in the incident. The Pascagoula School District remains committed to the safety of all its students."
The mother of the girl, Lacey Harris (pictured above with AvaLynn), wrote on Friday night:
How do you fall and receive such injuries? This school should be temporarily shut down pending investigation."As much as my heart is broken for my daughter, I am also amazed by the outpouring of love and support from our family, friends, Oasis church family and our community. Thank you so much for your concern, kind words, prayers, thoughts, shares, and donation. We ask that you continue these kind gestures."

Boko Haram may link up with ISIS — Australian negotiator
From: | <eCruzi> |
---|
An Australian hostage negotiator, Dr. Stephen Davis, has warned that Boko Haram may establish links with two vicious terror groups- Al Shabaab and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria- if not effectively checked now by the Nigerian government.
Al Shabaab, the militant wing of the Somali Council of Islamic Court, aligned with Al-Qaeda and took over most of Southern Somalia in the second half of 2006. The ISIS, on its part, is an Iraqi group that stands with Al-Qaeda as the most vicious Jihad group in the world.
Davis had visited Nigeria to negotiate the release of the over 200 schoolgirls abducted since April by Boko Haram insurgents.
He previously worked as a negotiator for Nigerian government under ex-Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Shehu Yar'Adua administrations during the Niger-Delta militants uprising in the South-South.
Davis, in an interview posted on Wednesday by Radio Australia, said that the best ways to stop Boko Haram insurgency were to block its sources of funding and tracking down its sponsors.
He identified banks and some Nigerian politicians as the major providers of funds to the insurgents.
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{YOU CAN SKIP READING THIS PART...In other news..... The Australian claimed that many of the politicians sponsoring the insurgency were in the opposition, adding that it would be difficult for President Goodluck Jonathan to arrest and prosecute them.
He argued that should Jonathan try to order their arrest, it would be misconstrued as a political attempt to rig the 2015 elections.
Davis said, "That makes it easier in some ways as they can be arrested, but of course the onus of proof is high and many are in opposition, so if the President moves against them, he would be accused of trying to rig the elections due early next year.
"So, I think this (insurgency) will run through to the election unabated. These politicians think that if they win power they can turn these terrorists off, but this has mutated.
"It's no longer a case of Muslims purifying by killing off Christians. They are just killing indiscriminately, beheading, disembowelling people – men, women and children and whole villages."
According to the negotiator, Boko Haram is growing out of the control of the politicians sponsoring it.
He warned that, as it is the trend with terrorist groups in Somalia, South Sudan and Egypt, the Boko Haram insurgents might soon link up with the ISIS and Al Shabaab.
Davis added, "I would say it's almost beyond the control of the political sponsors now.
"Terror groups are linking up in Somalia, southern Sudan, Egypt and we have fairly strong evidence they are talking with ISIS members.
"They will link up with ISIS and Al Shabaab and I think that what we are seeing in that region is the new homeland of radical Islam in the world."
The Perth-based international negotiator claimed he survived months of extreme danger in trying to rescue the 200 abducted schoolgirls.
Davis, who returned from a four-month sojourn with rare footage of the intense fighting in the North-East, said his life was threatened more than once, but his Australian passport saved him.
"When confronted by groups with an AK-47 in my face they'd say, 'you are American, we have to kill you," Davis said.
"When you say, no I'm not American, they think you are British, and say you will still die, but when I said I'm Australian, they said that's all right.
"I have no idea why but it's certainly been helpful."
He however blamed the aborted rescue of the schoolgirls on sabotage.
"I made a few telephone calls to the Boko Haram commanders and they confirmed they were in possession of the girls," Davis said.
"They told me they would be prepared to release some as a goodwill gesture towards a peace deal with the government, so I went to Nigeria on the basis of being able to secure their release," he added.
According to him, the insurgents lived up to their promise, but the rescue was sabotaged.
He said, "The girls were there, 60 girls. There were 20 vehicles with girls. We travelled for four-and-a-half hours to reach them, but 15 minutes before we arrived, they were kidnapped again by another group who wanted to cash in on a reward.
"The police had offered a reward of several million naira just 24 hours before we went to pick them up. I understand, from the Boko Haram commanders I spoke to, the girls eventually ended up back with them.
"I don't know what happened to the group that took them but I suspect it wasn't good."
Meet Stephen Davis, the Australian negotiator who risked his life in attempt to rescue kidnapped Nigerian girls

A Perth-based international adviser has survived months of extreme danger to try to rescue more than 270 schoolgirls kidnapped by terrorist group Boko Haram in Nigeria.
Stephen Davis, 63, has returned from a four-month sojourn with rare footage of the intense fighting in Nigeria's north-east, as Boko Haram stepped up efforts to establish an Islamic state.
Dr Davis, who has a PhD in political geography, has worked as an adviser to the past two presidents of Nigeria.
He established extensive contacts with tribes and terrorist groups in Africa, including three small cells of Al Qaeda, while working as a trouble-shooter for oil and gas company Shell in the Niger delta.
When news broke in April about the girls' kidnapping from a school in the village of Chibok, near the Cameroon border, Dr Davis, who had recently moved to Perth from London, decided he could not sit on his hands.
During the journey his life was threatened more than once, but his Australian passport saved him.
"When confronted by groups with an AK-47 in my face they'd say, 'you are American, we have to kill you'," Dr Davis said.
"When you say, no I'm not American, they think you are British, and say you will still die, but when I said I'm Australian, they said that's all right.
"I have no idea why but it's certainly been helpful."
The devout Christian managed to smuggle out of the country footage of a handful of schoolgirls who escaped from Boko Haram.
They detail the atrocities they endured, including being raped almost on a daily basis.
Release agreed as 'goodwill' gesture
Following media reports that nobody knew where the girls were, he decided to reach out to his contacts.
"I made a few phone calls to the Boko Haram commanders and they confirmed they were in possession of the girls," he said.
"They told me they'd be prepared to release some as a goodwill gesture towards a peace deal with the government, so I went to Nigeria on the basis of being able to secure their release."
Arriving in Nigeria, Dr Davis quickly set up talks with commanders and he believed he had brokered a deal.
Fearing being arrested, the Boko Haram commanders – holding the girls across the border in Cameroon – had a list of conditions.
They wanted the military stood down and promised to drop the girls in a village before phoning to give their exact location.
Dr Davis said they lived up to their promise, but in a country ravaged by war and corruption, the rescue was sabotaged.
"The girls were there, 60 girls, there were 20 vehicles with girls," he said.
"We travelled for four-and-a-half hours to reach them, but 15 minutes before we arrived they were kidnapped again by another group who wanted to cash in on a reward.
"The police had offered a reward of several million Naira just 24 hours before we went to pick them up.
"I understand, from the Boko Haram commanders I spoke to, the girls eventually ended up back with them.
"I don't know what happened to the group that took them but I suspect it wasn't good."
Four girls escaped by heading west
Dr Davis said a young man kidnapped by Boko Haram and used as a driver later helped a handful of girls escape.
One kidnapped girl, who managed to avoid having her mobile phone confiscated by turning it off and hiding it in her bra, managed to call her family while hiding in bushes, but had no idea where she was or which direction she should be heading.
After being told to walk west by following the sunset each evening the four girls managed to cross the border from Cameroon and into Nigeria before being reunited with their families.
So far they are the only girls to have escaped from a Boko Haram camp.
When Dr Davis later tried to contact, via text, the young man who helped them, he received a sobering reply.
"The person you are trying to contact has gone on a journey from which there is no return," the reply read.
"He was an infidel."
Dr Davis said the longer he stayed in Nigeria the more it dawned on him the kidnappings would not end.
"It became very clear that if I was able to get 50 girls released then another group would kidnap 70 or 80 more," he said.
"So by freeing 50 you were consigning 70 or 80 more to the same fate."

Atrocities going unreported
Dr Davis said initially journalists from around the world including CNN, the ABC and the BBC flooded into the country, but they concluded it was far too dangerous to send any crews into the north-east of the country.
He said since then, the violence in north-east Nigeria and the threat of foreign journalists being kidnapped and beheaded meant there had been limited coverage of the crimes being committed by Boko Haram.
"Boko Haram used to telephone Nigerian journalists and give them a story, but that doesn't happen anymore," he said.
"They go straight to social media. They post their own material and they've learnt to become very savvy on social media and use it as an instrument to terrorise."
Dr Davis said he had realised the only way to stop the kidnappings was to stop the sponsors of Boko Haram.
While Al Qaeda was involved in training Boko Haram recruits, Dr Davis said one of their major sources of funding – aside from raiding banks – was Nigerian politicians.
"That makes it easier in some ways as they can be arrested, but of course the onus of proof is high and many are in opposition, so if the president moves against them, he would be accused of trying to rig the elections due early next year," he said.
"So I think this will run through to the election unabated.

Nigerian Health Minister Says N1.9billion ‘Ebola Fund’ Will Be Used To Buy New Cars
On Tuesday, however, Mr. Chukwu denied that the money was released for the management of Ebola. The Minister of Health said the money was approved for the Ministry of Health.
"The N1.9billion approved by the president was for the federal ministry of health. It is not for Ebola fund. It will be used to procure more vehicles for working which have been ordered. It would be used to procure more drugs that have been ordered…and other items.
"In the case of Lagos state, after the president met commissioners of health, the president then asked the minister of health to discuss with the technical people and money has been approved for Lagos state," he said.
He further stated that though the world is at risk, the federal ministry of health is ready to face any outbreak.
"Excellence is a journey, it's never a destination. The federal ministry of health is ready to face any outbreak.
"Every country and every citizen of the world remains at risk but Nigeria is on top of the situation so we don't want people to panic. We should be in charge but not panic" he said.
The Lagos State government had complained that it did not receive the funds released for the management of Ebola despite being the epicentre of the management of the infection in the country.

TheNation reports that passengers were soaked in tension and anxiety when the aircraft carrying the suspected victim, a lady, arrived Lagos from Enugu at about 2pm. The aircraft was given a medical emergency landing and clearance following a call the airline received from Enugu that one of the passengers on board the flight has been infected with the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease.
On arrival of the aircraft at the domestic wing of the Lagos Airport, the lady ; an Enugu based nurse, was subjected to screening for Ebola. Ensuing from the confusion , all passengers and crew members that arrived on that flight were tested by a medical team from Port Health Services, the airline and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) officials.

Investigations revealed that no one tested positive of the Ebola Virus.
It was later learnt the false alarm arose from a call made by a young man, said to be an actor, that his ex- lover the nurse was infected by the Ebola Virus Disease. Their relationship had hit the rocks after she allegedly found a new suitor. The young man was said to have been heart broken when he found out.
A source told TheNation:
The young lady it was learnt got into a relationship with the ex- lover less than a month ago before the romance went sour. Sources hinted that the young lady was taken in a yellow van belonging to FAAN aviation security officials to the Port Health Services located near the airport for further test.
