A sloshed man woke up 300 miles away with a hangover to remember after a couple of festive drinks got out of hand. The 48-year-old dad, Shawn Smith woke up in France after meeting two mates for a few pints in his local.

But after they convinced him to join them on an overnight trip to buy cut-price tobacco, the father, who has never left the UK before, managed to get through checks at Dover, France and as far as Belgium without a passport.

He was stopped by customs officers on the return journey at Calais, and was forced to go to Paris to the British Consulate, and to fork out £99 for a temporary passport.

Self-employed plasterer Shawn said: "I'd only gone out for a couple of quiet pints with my pals at the local pub.

"They told me they were going to go across to Anderlecht in Belgium to stock on tobacco.

"Apparently you can legally buy 60 packets and that would last me the year for a faction of the cost of the price in Britain.

"They asked if I wanted to go along and I thought 'why not'.

"We planned to do an over-nighter, as a bit of an adventure. I just remember laughing a lot and my friend who wasn't drinking drove us down to Dover.

"I must have fallen asleep when we got to the port because the next thing I knew I woke up and was in France and we were on the way to Belgium.

"I thought to myself it was strange no one had asked me for my passport because I don't actually have one. I just thought because we were in Europe you don't need one.

"We went to a 24-hour hypermarket and filled up with tobacco and were coming back when I got stopped at Calais.

"I was shocked when they told me I had to go to Paris to fill out the forms for an emergency passport but I had no choice."

Shawn was hoping for quick passage back to the UK but as he was born in Germany his situation hit further complications, with officials ordering him to stay a week while they checked his nationality.

After his brother wired him cash, Shawn managed to survive on breakfast croissants and fast-food meals at McDonalds.

He added: "I don't want to see Paris again, although it is a beautiful city.

"It was an expensive hangover but something to tell the grandkids about."

Former Super Eagles defender and Macclesfield assistant manager, Efe Sodje, 42 has been accused of insulting the girlfriend of one of his players with sexually abusive language.

Lavelle-Moore, 20, accused Sodje of approaching his partner while he was warming up on the pitch ahead of a 1-1 draw at Nuneaton last month. The Police in Lagos have arrested a member of New Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ajah area of the state over the alleged death of two men during a spiritual bath, weekend.

The deceased identified as Abiodun and Ayinde Oniru, of same parents and one of their step-brothers were alleged to have been taken to the church by their father and step-mother last Thursday for spiritual cleansing.

However, after three days, it was reportedly suggested that they should complete the cleansing with a spiritual bath. But their step-brother reportedly refused and left the stream located in Ogombo area of Ajah, leaving Abiodun and Ayinde of ages 23 and 20 respectively behind with their step-mother and Pastor of the church identified as Pastor Samuel Olusoji.

Things reportedly took a tragic dimension, following report that Abiodun and Ayinde drowned during the spiritual bath. The case was said to have been reported at Ogombo police division, consequent upon which a team of policemen stormed the church.

Police sources said on sighting the policemen, Saturday, some members of the church located on 739, Ori-Oke Ibulun Ilasan Street, Jakande Ajah, including the Pastor, took to their heels.

Unfortunately for the church's secretary, he was arrested and whisked into the police waiting van.

An unlicensed Cambodian doctor has been charged today over an apparent mass HIV infection in a remote village after admitting he reused needles when treating patients, officials said.

Hundreds of panicked residents of Roka village in the western province of Battambang have flocked for testing since news of the infections emerged two weeks ago, with more than 100 people believed to have been infected.

Yem Chroeum, the 55-year-old self-styled doctor detained since last week, admitted reusing needles and syringes on different patients to the police and says he started this practice few years ago.

The man, who is not thought to have undertaken formal medical training, had the intention to infect villagers with the virus, a police chief said.

He was charged with three counts which include the intention to infect others with HIV/AIDS, murder with cruel act, and operating an unlicensed clinic.

Another bomb explosion has occurred at a market in Bauchi hours after killing 19 this morning at a bus station in Gombe. According to eyewitnesses the bomb exploded near a police outpost inside the market as traders were about closing for the day. The explosion occurred around 5:30pm and witnesses say, at least 15 people have died. Bauchi police spokesman also confirmed the explosion.

Tracy Kiss originally began posting images of herself in a bid to show her ex who walked out on her, what he was missing. Miss Kiss, 27, from Wendover, Bucks, was forced to undergo three life-saving ops in 2013 after it was discovered her silicone breast implants were leaking.

But only five days after leaving hospital following her breast reconstruction, her partner of five-and-a-half years walked out on her - leaving her to raise daughter Milicent, 7, and Gabriele, 2, as a single mum.

Rather than descend into self-pity, she threw herself into a gruelling fitness regime and diet - and was so pleased with the results that she decided to share them online.

Her selfies showing off her toned physique have earned her a dedicated social media following, with more than 50,000 followers on Instagram and more than 300,000 views on her personal YouTube page.

At a forum of Local Government Area chairmen under the aegis of Goodluck Lagos Grassroots Project in Lagos on Monday, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West, Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, says Lagosians have praised Fashola too much for the little things he has done. He said Fashola only did a little for Lagos State compared to what his counterpart, Goodwill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has done.

"No one should say Fashola is doing well in Lagos. Go to Akwa Ibom and see what the governor is doing there. Look at the stadium in Akwa Ibom. How many stadiums has Fashola built? There are bad roads all over the state with heavy traffic every day. Instead of Fashola to fix the roads, he was busy repairing Federal Government roads and sending inflated bills to the Federal Government as the cost of repair."

Ogundipe also admitted President Jonathan has done very little for the people of Southwest and blames them for it, for refusing to contribute to the government of Jonathan.

"If you take a look at the current structure of the Federal Government, you will see that the South-West has been shortchanged. The reason is clear; we did not contribute to the success of the President. We are not even in key positions at the National Assembly and we find it hard to get highly placed positions.
