The Islamic State (Isis) has recruited an army hundreds of thousands strong, far larger than previous estimates by the CIA, according to a senior Kurdish leader. He said the ability of Isis to attack on many widely separated fronts in Iraq and Syria at the same time shows that the number of militant fighters is at least 200,000, seven or eight times bigger than foreign in intelligence estimates of up to 31,500 men.

Fuad Hussein, the chief of staff of the Kurdish President Massoud Barzani said in an exclusive interview with The Independent on Sunday that "I am talking about hundreds of thousands of fighters because they are able to mobilise Arab young men in the territory they have taken."

He estimates that Isis rules a third of Iraq and a third of Syria with a population of between 10 and 12 million living in an area of 250,000 square kilometres, the same size as Great Britain. This gives the jihadis a large pool of potential recruits.

Russia Gives France A Final Deadline To Hand Over The Mistral Warship -- Business Insider

Russia has given France until the end of November to deliver the first of two Mistral-class helicopter carriers currently stuck in a shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, according to reports.

The ship, the Vladivostok, was scheduled to be delivered on Friday, but that deadline is now certain to be missed. In response a senior Russian source told the state-owned news service Sputnik International that the French side had until the end of the month to hand over the ship or the whole deal could be in jeopardy.

Russia Prepares Nuclear Surprise For NATO -- Pravda

On September 1, 2014 the US State Department published a report, in which it was stated that for first time since the collapse of the USSR, Russia reached parity with the US in the field of strategic nuclear weapons. Thus, Washington admitted that Moscow regained the status that the Soviet Union had obtained by mid-70's of the XX century and then lost.

According to the report from the State Department, Russia has 528 carriers of strategic nuclear weapons that carry 1,643 warheads. The United States has 794 vehicles and 1,652 nuclear warheads.

It just so happens that today, Russia's strategic nuclear forces (SNF) are even more advanced in comparison with those of the US, as they ensure parity on warheads with a significantly smaller number of carriers of strategic nuclear weapons. This gap between Russia and the United States may only grow in the future, given the fact that Russian defense officials promised to rearm Russia's SNF with new generation missiles.

At a recent Democratic Party event, President Obama boasted that, "American military superiority has never been greater compared to other countries." But the opposite is true. Earlier this year, the Pentagon acquisition chief contradicted his boss: "Technological superiority is not assured, and we cannot be complacent about our posture. This is not a future problem; this is a 'here now' problem."

Former Portsmouth midfielder Valery Mezague has been found dead in his French apartment. The 30-year-old Cameroon midfielder's corpse was discovered by French Police yesterday.

The midfielder who made 11 Premier League appearances for Portsmouth during his time on loan, returned to England in 2013 for a spell with Bury.

The National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor shortly after celebrating his birthday on Monday by giving out cheques of N50,000 each to 30 disabled people has said Nigerians need to stop pretending boko haram is a political war and its high time we face reality. Boko Haram is a religious war and its high time Islamic leaders talk some sense into them including Shekau himself, he explains.

Now the third thing; this is also very important, Nigerians, I beg us, let us stop this pretence. It is either we are totally ignorant, which I will be surprised of, or we are totally wicked and pretentious. We keep saying that this thing is not religious; it's an insult to the sensibility of the average Nigerian. So when will we agree that this is a religious problem? When Nigeria is wiped out? When these people overrun the whole nation before we will know? I read in the papers today that an insurgent was walking around the streets of Mubi preaching. The report states that Boko Haram patrol captured towns preaching to residents. Are they going round begging for food? They are preaching. Preaching what? Don't we know what they are preaching? They are preaching Sharia. Why are we pretending to be politically correct?

There are Muslims that are good friends and I associate with. I love them. I cannot hate Muslims. Why should I? My religion forbids me to do that, but I am begging these people that Muslim clerics, the notable ones from all the denominations of Islam, because Islam has denominations; all the Muslim clerics, all the Muslim political leaders, all the Muslim traditional rulers; these three groups should please for God's sake and for the sake of Nigeria and for the sake of their own future and their own children and children's children, they should come together.

Boko Haram will not listen to me. Boko Haram is an ideology. Please ask this question, what is the Salafi ideology in Islam? What is the Wahhabi doctrine in Islam? Are there doctrines like that? Yes. What are the doctrines that these terrorists around the world believe in? The doctrines they are teaching, are they not coming out of this Wahhabi and Salafi doctrines? Boko Haram is basically an ideology. To defeat an ideology, you need a superior ideology. Many of our Muslim brothers have come to say to those of us who don't know much about Islam that these people are not Muslims.

Alright, but what are these people preaching? Is it not from the Quran? Now you say you have the real thing that this is not the real thing. Then match the real thing with the unreal thing or with the fake. In other words, they must engage these people. There are few Muslim clerics that these people respect till tomorrow. From what I hear, they like discussing the Quran, up to Shekau himself.

They must find ways to engage them. I will never have access to them. They don't even want to hear anything about me because I'm an infidel. But they would listen to some of these clerics. They must locate them, find ways to engage them probably through some of these their Quranic studies and scholars, they may be able to get to a point where they can discourage some of their activities and gradually get them to become sane again, he told Vanguard.

A toddler had to have emergency surgery after a bullmastiff left him with horrific facial injuries. Ollie Cummings, 2, had been playing in his mum Natasha Wilson's boyfriend's home when the dog ripped his face and head Friday night.

His mom, Natasha, 25, who got to know the toddler was been attacked snatched him from the bullmastiff before rushing him to the hospital. After carefully observing the cuts on his face, Ollie was wheeled into the theatre for a two-hour plastic surgery operation at lunchtime yesterday.

Ollie's grandmother, Debs Martin, 48, however said the toddler was already used to the dog, and wondered what went wrong on Friday night.

She said: "Ollie had been playing with keys, walking from one door to another pretending to lock and unlock them. It all happened so fast. We're not sure if Ollie maybe dropped the keys next to the dog. Ollie was used to being around the dog. He has known it for six months and has been saying, 'Love Ollie, love Ollie. The dog has already been removed from the property and will be destroyed by a vet, she concluded".

For now Ollie is okay, but faces further surgery when he is aged around 10.

Dog attacks in the UK are one of the most common causes of severe facial lacerations in children, according to reports. Each year, approximately 28,000 facial dog bites are reported in the UK, with over 19,000 requiring plastic surgery.
