The presidency has reacted to Obansanjo's statement that President Jonathan has performed below average..
In a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe
Our attention has been drawn to comments made by a former President of this country, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo regarding the performance of the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan."Chief Obasanjo had at an event over the weekend declared  that he rated the President Goodluck Jonathan administration "below average"."We aver that Chief Obasanjo's comments are untrue, misleading and clearly do not tally with the facts on the ground.
"We therefore wish to assert without equivocation that in terms of performance and achievements, no administration since 1960 when Nigeria gained independence from Britain, has done as much as that of President Jonathan. Every discerning and unbiased Nigerian will definitely attest to this fact as the evidence stare all of us in the face. 
"We will show here that contrary to Chief Obasanjo's position, the Federal Government under President Jonathan has performed excellently given the prevailing circumstances and resources available. An assessment of key sectors of national life under the Jonathan administration will definitely controvert Chief Obasanjo's argument that President Jonathan has not performed well. We will prove this by looking at the performance of the following sectors under President Jonathan.
"While it is true that Nigeria has been faced with incidents of insurgency and terrorism especially in the last few years, it is also true the Jonathan administration has successfully contained the initial wide-spread and limitless activities of the insurgents which were prevalent in twelve states of the North including the Federal Capital, Abuja.

Moro Bans Use Of Phones In Prisons, Says Inmates Not Allowed To Dress Indecently

The Federal Government has banned the use of mobile phones in all the prison formations by inmates and prison officials. It also directed the Nigerian Prison Service authorities to recover all handsets from inmates within 30 days.

Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, who handed down the order on Saturday in Abuja, during an interactive meeting with the senior officers of the Prison Service, decried indecent dressing by the inmates.

He stated that no inmate should be allowed to wear their choice of clothes or shoes, as is the practice presently, "no matter highly placed they may be."

Moro said, "I have visited some prisons in other countries as the Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Nobody, no matter highly placed you are, you don't come to prison with your phones, not even the minister of Interior as the supervising minister over the prisons. So, why are you an exception?

"Henceforth, no matter who you are including myself, that nobody goes into prison with telephones. And so, as you are going from here, create a meeting platform where all the officers that work in the prisons as they walk into prisons, they submit their phones and collect them when they close.

"Secondly, it means that you have one month to recover all the phones in the custody of inmates across the prison formations. Within one month, all prison formation must recover all telephones from inmates."

The minister threatened to deal with the NPS management if it failed to carry out the directive, adding that he would know if the phones were not recovered from the inmates as ordered.

"Don't forget that I will know if you fail to do this, because we have various agencies in Nigeria that are tracking telephone usages and MTN and other service providers could make available such facilities. Marilyn Ogar, the spokesperson for the Department of State Services, DSS, has explained in a statement today why APC Data Centre in  Ikeja was raided yesterday by DSS men. According to her, the department received a petition alleging "unwholesome activities" in the said building and they swung into action.

"The petition alleged that those behind the activities were cloning INEC Permanent Voters Card with the intention of hacking into INEC data base, corrupting it and replacing them with their own data.

"Based on this information, the service placed the building under surveillance and having been convinced that some unwholesome activities were going on in the building, it undertook a raid of the premises.

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Justice, Dr. Ali Ahmad, has warned the police against trying to make any attempt to arrest the Speaker of the House, Aminu Tambuwal, stating that 100 legislators would be prepared to follow him to prison. Ali made this statement yesterday in Ilorin, Kwara State, while inaugurating the vocational centre of the University of Ilorin Students' Union, equipped by him.

 "If anybody is planning to arrest Mr. Speaker, they should be ready to arrest over 100 legislators. We would follow him to the prison. If they won't open the prison door, we would break it and go inside.

"If they are arresting the Speaker, they should be prepared; we would all go in there. If they have shackles, they should go and buy more.

"We would do anything for Nigeria's democracy not to be sacrificed on the altar of somebody's personal ego. Nigeria is a constitutional country and is a government that is being governed by constitution.
