The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has warned Nigerians involved in the smuggling frozen chicken to desist from doing so as it could bring back the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD.

The warning was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the Federal Department of Animal Production and Husbandry Services.

The department noted that poultry products had continued to find their way into local markets through several land borders despite the ban on such products.

It quoted the USAID Agricultural Information Network as reporting that 90 per cent of frozen chicken come in through Benin Republic and other West African countries.

The department also blamed the decline in the consumption of local chicken, loss of jobs provided by the poultry industry and decrease in national income generated from the poultry sub-sector, on the illegal trade of frozen chicken.

The department, while acknowledging that the sale of frozen chicken had become a means of livelihood for some Nigerians, stated that its continuous consumption posed a great health risk.

Some factors adduced by the ministry for its health risk include the length of storage of frozen chicken before reaching Nigeria.

According to the ministry, the quality of chicken is usually very low due to the break in cold chain during several hours of land journey to Nigeria through illegal routes.

The Agriculture Ministry also identified the absence of quality certification or standard of instruments used as another source of health risk.

Besides the above factors, the recent outbreak of Ebola in some West African countries had shown that the handling of these products could transmit the disease, the ministry said in the statement.

It said that people handling these frozen chicken are unknown and as such, there are no checks on the storage facility and the mode of transportation.

It warned that Nigerians should not assume that all affected West African countries have achieved 100 per cent tracking and control of EVD as Nigeria had done.

"It is on this note that the Federal Department of Animal Production and Husbandry Services is calling on Nigerians smuggling chicken to desist from doing so.

"The department is also calling on the Nigerian Customs Service to step up surveillance to further curb this illegal trade.

"Similarly, agricultural and health watchdogs must keep a vigilant eye on poultry product to prevent contaminants in the product", the statement further said.

      "Having very old ancestry from India, the name Janni Pixel, came from both Hindu and English. Janni means a gift from haeven in Hindu and Pixel as we all know is image in english. I began 3 years ago whislt working with Jeilson industrial gates limited under the marketing and publicity department. Am a 300 civil engineering student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Graphics is a big part of my life, from artistry, drawing, painting cartoons, comic books, then i proceeded to computer designs, which i carried out on corel draw but decided to evolve into using photoshop when i realised it was the number one tool for graphic designing as compared to the Corel draw which i was using which held a mere position 3."

      "My works are very numerous, the prominent ones i can remember now are those i did for Slim Joe (a fiend of Iyanya), I designed a motion graphic that was used for his birthday and song promotion on BBM. I have also worked for firms such as systemtech, Techedge and Spac Infonet. I designed web banners and advert banners for them. I also do magazines, like i did most of the graphic work for a new magazine being called Detives and i just concluded work on the faculty of Biological science University of Nigeria graduants, year book. A 44-year- old woman, Clara Dominique, who had been childless for 18 years, was last Saturday delivered of quadruplets. The quadruplets are three girls and a male. They were delivered at the Graceland Medical Centre in Benin City, Edo State.

According to The Nation Newspaper, Mrs. Clara, who got married in 1996, said it was God's grace that kept her and her husband through the trials of childlessness. She said they refused to keep friends because of the problem.

"I am happy that my husband and I were able to stay together to this day to witness the blessings of the Lord. My husband has been encouraging me that God will do it for us. My husband never contemplated driving me away. 

I was happy when the scan showed it was four. Sometimes I think of how I will carry the four of them. I have not seen somebody delivered four babies. It was not easy for me to carry the pregnancy. At a time the weight of the pregnancy was too much for me. 

I was the one dedicating children at our church every last Sunday of the month. I was the first to visit anybody that I knew that gave birth so that I can give them what I have. I am not the jealous type. 

It was my husband's cousins that tried to take the matter up but my husband stopped them. My parents were also there to encourage us. That was what kept us together because the family pressure was not there. They knew we were Christians and nobody could penetrate my husband and I."One of the doctors at the hospital, Dr. Oni Samson, said the babies were delivered through cesarean section. She said:

"You don't expect a woman that is having multiple births to do that through the vaginal. This is the first time we had quadruplets in this hospital. The children are okay. The ante-natal was uneventful. They are still under care for them to be stabilized.
