| Poverty is a weapon of mass destruction- Jaybee |
Poverty has been extolled by poets, prescribed by saints and welcome by philosophers. Again and again we have heard it said that the poor are blessed, for they are free from the cares of riches, free from the temptation of wealth, they live plainly but ******minds contemplates. noble thoughts when one hears wise people talk man enthusiastic overall thing blessings of poverty, one begins to wonder whether these good
people know what poverty really means, or are simply carried away by an abstract imagination. and that leads us to emphasis seriously what poverty really means. it is something very much less than competence. it means wants of food for a growing family, wants of cloths in the season of cold, want of shelter against the indecencies of weather, want of medical help in sickness and disease, cannot train his child in school. from the above, it could be seen that the average Nigerian is poor. who but a hypocrite or a self reluctant fool will say that such a life is a blessing. it is time people stop giving that such nonsensical views.

It is said that poverty has no temptation to vice, on the contrary, poverty is one by alone temptation to crimes of all kinds. crime, one of the most vexations problems of our time is on the increasing wave in the country due to poverty. the country's prison and police cells are overflowing with criminals of all shade-drugs and currency traffickers, armed robbers and murderers, ritual killers, thieves, forgers, homicides, arsonists, terrorists, smugglers, kidnappers, all abound in the society the pressure of poverty than any other single factor. the crime of poverty is in fact more to blame than the individual.
it is said that the poor man, who is free from the distraction of wealth is able to devote himself to higher thought personally. one hardly remember a singer instance of contented with an ailing wife and hungry looking children who normally dress on rags and at best wear second hand made dress popularly called OKIRIKA during festive periods such as the xmas or during sallah.
Take it or leave it, Poverty is a curse, let there be no mistake about that the society that contemplates poverty with equanimity has lost the power of feeling it is on the down word path to decadence, the contrast between wealth and poverty becomes glaring through their very incongruity when people contemplate the dazzling splendor of the rich man take a good look at ikoyi, the beautiful peninsula which is adorned with beautiful houses like the ones that adorned the garden of eden then bompai in kano, independent layout of Enugu, the list is endless. then he comes to acquire a sort of unspoken contempt for the drab ugliness of the poor man's hit. take a look in the far north of Nigeria and to the remote village, maker shift settlements, and adour the creeks, the jungle settlement in some parts of ajegunle called BOUNDARY then poverty becomes an evil and the poor is cold shouldered or shunned that is why the poor man more about furtively apologetically, almost ashamed to push themselves into the notice of heir more fortunate brethren. think of this especially among NDIGBO.
Pomparative poverty is one thing and genuine poverty is another the man compaatively poor has hope of being not so poor. that gives him the energy to struggle, the rest for action but the genuinely poor man in a pitiable condition. geographically speaking. they are found in all Conner of the country both rural and urban.hence does not know what to do o whom to turn. social condition are against him he feels scared, and dejected especially during town launching and other found raising activities like church launching and many others. the poor man loses dignity and self respect. he borrows and beg and steals then finally realase in death.
Poverty is curse of capitalism society of which Nigeria is one where man has reversal to th law of the jungle kill or be killed. no one cares weather the poor die of starvation or disease of self slaughter, being kidnapped or even die of the popular motorcycle okada. but everybody pays attention when the rich man dies think of the ill fated DANA air crash at Lagos. while the poor lived they are drudges, who help to fill pockets of the rich. therefore every thoughtful in man today caress this system of capitalism that gives rise to poverty, and thinks of ways and means of ending it.
There was a time when the delusive maximal of religion threw over poverty a l amour of holiness and made men view it with toleration. but as capitalism increases the gulf between the rich and the poor the ugliness of poverty becomes palpate to be passel over. once it was supposed that poverty could be made to die. but militia Claudian in action has shown new easy it is even for saintly men to succumb to wealth.
