We've all been there — we feel completely alone, as though no one understands what we are going through. There's a suffocating and overwhelming feeling that takes over and paralyzes us.
The feeling of being alone can manifests itself differently in each and every one of us. For some, the thought of being alone is so scary that we turn to drugs, alcohol, food, and toxic relationships. And others stay in a cycle of self-pity and shame, which can leave us isolated and stuck inside our homes, unable to take care of ourselves on the simplest of levels.
Here's the thing though, there IS a solution! You don't have to stay stuck in this cycle offeeling lonely and apart from the world. Here are some simple and fun ways to connect and bring a feeling of togetherness into your reality:

1. Drive or take public transportation somewhere new.
Getting out of a cycle of loneliness sometimes requires a change of scenery and environment. If you drive, go and explore somewhere new. If public transportation is around you, hop on the subway or train and go somewhere you haven't been before and allow your mind to enter a state of traveling.
2. Connect with people who have similar passions.
It can be difficult to do this at times, but the Internet does offer some helpful tools.Meetup.com is a great way to start! You can search "meetups" by location and similar interests. Connecting with like-minded people is extremely beneficial and you'll definitely feel less alone.
3. Get off social media.
As much as we like to think that social media is helpful in times of evading loneliness, it is actually detrimental. The compare and despair mentality that scrolling through social media feeds and streams, can actually take us out of the present moment. Comparing yourself to the "exciting lives" of others can breed deeper feelings of loneliness, insecurity and sadness.
4. Move your body.
In times of loneliness, we are often disconnected to our bodies and the mind/body/soul connection is lost. By moving our bodies, we bring ourselves back to the present moment and the connections within our spiritual beings are reforged. Head to the gym, go for a run or find a free yoga class online. All of this helps get you out of your head.
This can be easier said than done sometimes, but just hearing the live voice of another human being can help snap us out of paralyzing feelings of fear and loneliness. Ask this person how their day is going. Maybe they need help with something or advice on a situation. Think of calling someone as an act of service.
6. Start watching a new TV series.
Put the power in your hands and start a new TV series that you really want to watch. There are thousands of options. Pick one and watch an episode and get out of your head as you connect with dozens of new characters and stories.
7. Create a collage.
Grab some magazines and newspapers and cut out the words or pictures that inspire you. Put them on a poster board and lo and behold — you've created your own personal vision board. This is a positive reminder of the life you want to create for yourself each and every moment.
Mind Body Green
